In surveys conducted with prospective renters over one-half (62%) site location as the most important factor in meeting their rental needs. Lifestyle also comes into play with 19% of prospective renters needing pet-friently properties and 13% wanting family-appropriate properties. Modern amenities, such as hardwood floors, nearby cafes and nearby publich transportation is identified by 30% of prospective renters as a need.

If you have a minute, let us share some final advice with you as a prospective renter:

1. Check out places in person
   Almost one-third of renters (31%) said they wish they toured more properties in person before deciding on one. So, while you may feel rushed to make a decision or make a move-out deadline, tour multiple properties so that you can make a sound decision on whether a property meets your needs.
   


2. Find out more about the area
   Another key factor renters mentioned in surveys is they wished they had found out more about their neighboring area. So, ask questions, talk with friends or simply knock on a door of other properties in the neighborhoods you are interested in renting to find out what others think of the areas you are considering.


3. Inspect the property thoroughly
   Know the details of the property you are considering and understand the potential upsides and downsides. This factor was identified by 29% of survey respondents. Make additional visits to properties, take pictures, if allowed- so you can compare properties.


4. Get to know the property management company
   Finally, 27% of those surveyed wished they had found out more about the property management company. Speak directly with the company representative that manages the property you wish to rent. See how they communicate with you, ask questions about what customer support they offer renters and how they handle issues appropriately and promptly.
